About us, the joint research training group

The core idea of the joint research training group “Joint Lab Artificial Intelligence & Data Science” is to address the current challenges of food security in times of climate change through application-specific AI and data science technologies. The focus is on optimizing, increasing efficiency, and automating agricultural processes. As an initial focus, the Joint Lab KI & DS will primarily train doctoral and postgraduate students in AI and data science in agricultural technology as well as in agricultural, engineering, and environmental sciences.

Around 40 scientists from both institutions are involved in the Joint Lab KI & DS. The research training group includes 12 doctoral students, 3 postdocs, and several associated young scientists.

In the future, the Joint Lab is intended to pave the way for the establishment of a non-university research institute in Osnabrück, which is to be established as a branch of the Leibniz Institute for Agricultural Engineering and Bioeconomy in Potsdam.
